As HBO’s hit series “Euphoria” gears up for its much-anticipated third season, production has hit a temporary pause due to creator Sam Levinson’s ongoing work on the scripts. In light of this, the network has given the green light for the cast to seek other roles, stating, “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” and during this period, “we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
While there was no concrete start date for the third season’s production, it was anticipated to kick off within the next few months. Sydney Sweeney, following the premiere of her new horror movie, “Immaculate,” at South by Southwest, hinted at her return to “Euphoria,” saying, “I go into Euphoria.”
Since the airing of its second season over two years ago, “Euphoria” has catapulted its cast to stardom, with Zendaya, Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo among those seeing their careers flourish. Domingo’s recent Oscar nomination and Storm Reid’s Emmy win for “The Last Of Us” underline the high demand for the show’s actors, prompting HBO to permit them to explore other projects amidst the filming delay. Although discussions around replacing the third season with a film surfaced, the focus has returned to producing a full new season.
Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, revealed plans for a 2025 premiere of “Euphoria” Season 3 last November, a timeline that still holds. Levinson, in a conversation with Elle, hinted at a “film noir” theme for the upcoming season, with Zendaya’s character delving into the essence of morality in a tainted world.
Colman Domingo shared insights into the forthcoming season’s creative process, emphasizing Levinson’s iterative writing style and his pursuit of exploring contemporary existential dilemmas through the narrative.
The “Euphoria” team has faced the loss of Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen in the gap between seasons. Set against the backdrop of East Highland, California, the series navigates themes of love, loss, and addiction, drawing inspiration from an Israeli series by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin. To date, “Euphoria” has garnered nine Emmy Awards across its first two seasons, with Zendaya’s historic wins highlighting its critical acclaim.
