One of Netflix UK’s most ambitious projects of the summer was KAOS, a modern reimagining of Greek mythology led by Jeff Goldblum. However, fans hoping for a second season will be disappointed. Despite the show’s setup for future installments, it has officially ended after just one season, according to a now-deleted Instagram post by one of the stars.
Netflix has recently been omitting season numbers from their first-season titles, but KAOS was clearly designed as a multi-season series—especially given the way episode 8 sets up future storylines. If you’ve seen it, you’ve probably noticed all the groundwork laid for additional seasons.
As of October 7th, Netflix is expected to have officially canceled the series. The news initially came from Aurora Perrineau, one of the show's stars, who confirmed the cancellation in response to a fan’s question on Instagram (a post that has since been deleted).
Though the cancellation is disheartening, creator Charlie Covell has expressed her hopes for more seasons. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Covell shared, “I think anything is possible,” adding that her vision included three seasons, and she had plenty of ideas for where the story could go. She did, however, acknowledge that the first season was structured to be a satisfying story on its own, even without a continuation. “I didn’t want to leave things on a total cliffhanger,” she said, but added that she would love the chance to work with the cast and crew again.
Ultimately, the fate of KAOS—like most Netflix shows—comes down to viewership numbers, and the early data hasn’t been promising. This has been a key factor in predicting other major cancellations, and it seems to have played a role here as well.
Season 1 ends with major shifts against Zeus, leaving many open questions. Prometheus has escaped Zeus’s control and now sits on the throne in Olympus. Riddy, having returned from the Underworld, has learned from Cassandra that she’s now a prophet and must "set the living free." In the Underworld, Caeneus is tasked with freeing the dead and is granted the power to renew souls, surprising even Hades.
Ari, having fulfilled her father’s prophecy, refuses to rule for the gods and makes a deal with the Trojans to rebuild Troy and overthrow Olympus. Meanwhile, Hera, preparing for battle, summons her troops, and Dionysus stands outside the palace. The power dynamics are shifting, but Zeus is weakened and vulnerable, with his control of Olympus and the Underworld on the verge of collapse.
Where the story might have gone next remains a mystery, but fans will be left wondering about the next moves in the power struggle against Zeus.
