Bryan Cranston has returned as Breaking Bad’s iconic Walter White in a new anti-littering public service announcement.
Titled "Breaking Bad Habits" as a nod to the hit show, the ad urges people in New Mexico to stop littering. It recreates a memorable desert scene from the series, featuring Cranston, as White, picking up trash and declaring, “Keep litter out of my territory.”
The ad includes a clever callback to the Breaking Bad pilot, with a pair of khaki pants lying on the ground – a reference to White losing his trousers in the desert while fleeing during the episode.
New Mexico Governor Lujan Grisham and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller also make appearances in the ad, but it’s Cranston’s reprisal of Walter White that has thrilled fans. Social media buzzed with excitement, with one YouTube commenter joking, “Walter White coming back from the dead to clean WAS NOT on my bingo card,” and an X (formerly Twitter) user adding, “Anything for more Breaking Bad content.”
Another fan suggested, “We should get a Breaking Bad ad every once in a while to bring back that nostalgic feeling.”
The ad is part of a broader campaign that includes billboards and an autumn cleanup initiative involving volunteers from across the state.
While Cranston thrilled fans with his return as White, he had previously told Breaking Bad devotees in January that it was time to move on from the series, saying, “Everything should come to an end. Everything’s cyclical… it’s okay to have a beginning, middle, and end, and then let it go. I’m proud of what we did.”
Earlier this year, Cranston also made headlines for his speech at a Democratic rally in support of Kamala Harris for President. At the event, titled "Fighting For Reproductive Freedom," Cranston, who has portrayed various roles on TV, emphasized that as a father, the right to choose is a fundamental issue: “It’s important to me for my daughter’s future and for other fathers' daughters to have the fundamental right of freedom of choice.”
