Bob Barker died of complications of Alzheimer's

Bob Barker, the former host of “The Price Is Right,” passed away at the age of 99, as revealed by his death certificate obtained by NBC News. He succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease, with contributing factors including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and hyperlipidemia. Barker, who departed on August 26 at his Los Angeles residence, had been initially reported as having died from natural causes.

Nancy Burnet, his long-time companion, shared that just up to two months prior to his passing, Barker remained engaged in conversations and participated in exercises. Per his wishes, there was no funeral or memorial service, and he was laid to rest beside his late wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia, is incurable and leads to the gradual deterioration of the brain, often causing complications like dehydration, malnutrition, or infection that can result in death.

Although the FDA approved a drug named Leqembi earlier that year to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, it is not a cure. Barker’s death was announced shortly after, and he was only a few months away from his 100th birthday.

Bob Barker is survived by Nancy Burnet, his companion for four decades, and various family members, including his half-brother Kent Valandra. He did not have children and was previously married to Dorothy Jo Gideon from 1945 to 1981.

Barker’s enduring legacy includes his remarkable 35-year tenure as the host of “The Price Is Right,” a show now hosted by Drew Carey. He consistently advocated for spaying and neutering animals to address overpopulation, earning him recognition for his animal rights activism. Notably, his passing coincided with National Dog Day, further highlighting his dedication to this cause.
