Barry Berkman Character Review

Barry Berkman is the titular character of the HBO comedy-drama series “Barry.” The character is portrayed by Bill Hader, who also co-created and co-writes the show. Barry is a former Marine turned hitman who begins to question his profession after a chance encounter with a community theater group in Los Angeles.

At the beginning of the series, Barry is a highly skilled and efficient killer who carries out his assignments with clinical precision. He is stoic, unemotional, and seemingly disconnected from the violent acts he commits. However, as the series progresses, we begin to see cracks in Barry’s façade, and we realize that he is struggling with deep-seated emotional issues.

One of the most interesting things about Barry’s character is the way that he grapples with his own morality. He knows that what he does is wrong, but he finds himself unable to walk away from the violence and the money that come with his job. This inner conflict is exacerbated when he becomes involved with Sally Reed, an aspiring actress who he meets while surveilling a target. Barry is drawn to Sally’s passion for her craft, and he begins to realize that he too has a desire to be creative and express himself.

Barry’s journey throughout the series is one of self-discovery and transformation. As he becomes more involved with the theater group and begins to explore his own artistic side, he begins to question the life he has been living as a hitman. He struggles to reconcile his violent past with his newfound desire to be a better person and to make amends for his past misdeeds.
